Highway infrastructure will be increasingly developed when accompanied with the expansion of cities in Vietnam, typically of Hanoi Capital and Ho Chi Minh City. The new type of highway, such as expressway, has been being constructed to satisfy the greater and greater transportation demands and partly relieve the traffic congestions in the two of so-called megacities in Asian Region, and to make more rapid linkages between the provinces nationwide. Thus, a research to apply an expressway infrastructure asset management system is indispensible for Vietnam’s sustainable development and the citizens’ better life. My doctoral course at Kyoto University under the academic supervision of Prof. Kyoshi Kobayashi and Associate Prof. Kakuya Matsushima and financial support of Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is targeted at dealing with this issue.

Alena has graduated from Engineering Economics Department of Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics in Moscow in 2007 and was awarded a degree of Planning Engineer specializing in “Enterprise Economics and Management (Construction)”. From 2007 till 2009 she used to work in consulting company as a specialist in project management and planning. She was consulting Russian construction companies on applying of project management methodology and scheduling software.

In 2009 she was awarded the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Government Scholarship for studying and doing research at Kyoto University.From April 2010 She is studying at the Laboratory of Professor Kobayashi as a doctoral student.

Mangapul L. Nababan

Mangapul L. Nababan is a PhD student at Graduate School of Engineering, Department of Urban Management, Kyoto University. He came from Indonesia and joined the Laboratory of Prof. Kiyoshi Kobayashi since October 2009.

Nababan obtained the Bachelor in Engineering from Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Institute of Technology Bandung Indonesia (ITB) and the Master of Science from Urban Development Studies Program University of Indonesia (UI). Nababan is also registered as a staff of Indonesian Ministry of Public Works since 2002.His current research is related to urban infrastructure asset management and role of local governments in urban infrastructure provision such as road pavement and water supply system. In March 2010, he was doing internship in Indonesia (see the internship menu for the details).

研究テーマ：ロジックモデルを用いた都市高速道路の維持管理マネジメントに関する研究

概要；わが国における都市高速道路は，戦後の国土復興の中で自動車交通の重要性が国民にも
　　　認識され，1950年代に始まる高度経済成長期を中心にして大量に建設され，わが国の都市
          部における経済成長と国民生活の向上に大きな役割を果たしてきました．
          しかしながら，今日では供用後30年以上の構造物も40%近く占めており，構造物の高齢化が
          維持管理の上で重要な課題であり，最近になり，鋼橋の鋼床版等の一部に亀裂が発生する
          ような損傷事例が現れるようになるなど劣化損傷が多発する危険性は高まってきています．
          また，償還満了時における2050年には，供用後５０年以上の構造物が多くを占めることになり，
          現時点から予防保全を含めた対策が必要であると考えられています．
                                         このような背景を踏まえ,都市高速道路におけるアセットマネジメントの取組みとして，維持管
                                         理業務の継続的改善に資するために開発した維持管理ロジックモデル並びに中長期的に最
                                         適な維持管理計画の策定を支援するために開発した橋梁マネジメントシステム（BMS）を用い
                                         た政策評価、効率的な維持管理マネジメント施策について研究を行っています．

Hello, I’m Nozomi Kaminaga, a student working at a consulting company.
Mental and physical health first! And societies’ health as well.　Facing the population decreasing and aging with a　declining birthrate, how can a society help all people enjoy their lives? I’m trying to find an answer for this question from “leisure” studies. My Ph.D study theme; Methodological study on socio-economy and the promotion of social leisure in mountainous areas.

My study is focused on developing advanced asset management system which can be applicable to various countries. Road administrators, engineers and researchers often face problem about “What is most effective?” For maintenance activities to meet the economic criteria, they must produce benefits in excess of their costs. A minimum of expense is, of course, highly desirable; but the road which is truly the cheapest is not the one which has cost the least money, but the one which makes the most profitable returns in proportion to the about spent on it.

Doctoral Student from Indonesia since October 1st, 2008.
Theme of research is Water Supply Management System and Social Capital, case studyIndonesia. Aims of the research are (i) understanding complexity water system problemssuch as scarcity of water resources and its preservation, and water right and allocation; (ii)developing a proper methodology for the measurement social capital; (iii) developing asuitable policy in order to improve urban governance aspect to bring betterment andsecurity access to water for all humankind. Inventions in this research will be a newdimension of comparative institutional analysis approach in water governance.
